What if I've been married before?
If previously married, proof of your divorce or death of a previous partner will need to be provided. Documents must be original, not photocopies.
Where do I start?
Once you have confirmed your date it’s important to secure other service providers. Email or phone to set up an informal chat or Skype/FaceTime. I usually meet couples or one partner at a cafe, your home or mine. You’ll know after this meeting if you would like to make a booking. Be mindful that by law the Notice of Intent to Marry must be lodged with your celebrant no later than one month prior to your ceremony.
Do we need to apply for a Marriage Certificate?
The marriage certificate you receive at your ceremony is a legal document however to change your name on driver’s licence, bank details and passport you will need to apply for a Marriage Certificate from the Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages in the State in which you are married. The fee for your standard marriage certificate is currently $53 in NSW and $43.50 in Qld. For those marrying in New South Wales, I am more than happy to provide application forms and submit your application with my paperwork following your wedding, thereby bypassing your need to provide multiple ID if you submit it independently. If marrying in Queensland, three POI documents of the applicant need to be presented to the celebrant who will then endorse your application.
You will be eligible for a new passport, free of charge, if application is made within 12 months.
Please note, a change of name kit is provided as part of my service if you wish.
Do we need permission to have our ceremony at the beach or in a local park?
It is necessary to obtain permission from your local council if you intend marrying in public parks, beaches or reserves. Some permits incur a small fee while others are free of charge. It is recommended that ask your celebrant about fees and conditions for your desired location.
What are your preferred sites for wedding ceremonies?
Byron Bay and Gold Coast beaches are amazing sites for your ceremony however it is best if there is the option of a protected side of a headland or stand of trees in case of strong winds which often accompany afternoon beach ceremonies.
Either side of Burleigh or Cabarita Headland, Fingal Head, Len Wort Park, Elephant Rock, Currumbin Beach, North Burleigh/Miami, Budd’s Beach and Froggys Beach are all very popular.
Byron Bay with its beaches and gorgeous hinterland is renowned as THE Wedding Destination! Wategos, Little Wategos, Byron Bay Lighthouse, Clarke’s Beach, Tallows Beach, Broken Head and Pat Morton Lookout, a little further south at Lennox Head, all offer divine outlooks. Brunswick Heads is a unique, less crowded pristine beach option.
The Gold Coast Botanical Gardens at Ashmore are a gorgeous setting for your ceremony as is the quaint St Margaret’s Chapel at Gold Coast Arts Centre.
The pristine Hinterland Rainforests also offer numerous possibilities for your wedding ceremony.
The small hamlets of Bangalow, Coorabell, Newrybar, Alstonville, Mullumbimby, Uki, Mt Tamborine and beyond offer divine possibilities. There are numerous well appointed properties available for ceremonies and receptions.
Can we write our own ceremony or does the Celebrant do it all for us?
The option is totally yours. As your Celebrant I will be comfortable with as much or as little input from you as you wish. I will provide many resources to assist your decision making. These will give you an idea of where to start or give you some inspiration to write your own vows or alternately you can mix and match from a selection of ceremonies to create your own.
We can also create a ceremony that is uniquely written, just for you or a mixture of both.
Whichever way you choose, I will provide a ceremony with your specific and unique ideas in mind. I will take the time to get to know you as a couple so that the ceremony we create is a personal reflection of your journey. Together we will craft a ceremony that you and your guests will enjoy and remember always.
